Volunteer Spotlight: Quintin McMillin

Ronald McDonald House Volunteer Spotlight: Quintin McMillan

Gillian: To start, why don’t you tell me why you began volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho, and how long you’ve been volunteering for.

Quintin: I just wanted to give back, because I’ve been given so much. I originally did it with a team that I was on, but my team has since dissolved. But I love the Ronald McDonald House, I love everything that it stands for. I love the staff—they’re fantastic. It’s been over a year now since I’ve been volunteering at the House.

The thing that I love the most, because I’m a spiritual person, is that I get to talk to all the people, while fixing meals in the kitchen. It starts out as a hello to finding out about the families and why they’re staying at the House. And so, I love that! It’s been a lot more than just serving my time and giving my money to RMHC of Idaho. I love the whole experience. It makes me feel good giving to others and serving others!

Gillian: How often do you usually volunteer at the House?

Quintin: Once a month.

Gillian: What are some of the typical tasks you do when volunteering?

Quintin: I’ve done cleaning and cooking. I love it. My background before I got into real estate was the restaurant business, so I’ve always loved cooking. Your kitchens are great at the House. I don’t have a lot of free time, but I do make sure every month that I’m at the House volunteering. Everybody is amazing there!

Gillian: It’s definitely such a great staff, and there’s so many awesome volunteers. What do you think the most rewarding part about volunteering is?

Quintin: Just serving mankind and being kind and loving towards others and doing whatever I can. I think I could be doing more, but this is what I have the time for right now. It just makes me happy every time I walk through those doors, just to see the staff and see their smiles. I’ve gotten to know several of them and talk to them, I leave there more uplifted than when I showed up!

Gillian: I totally relate to that. How do you think Ronald McDonald House makes our Boise community a better place?

Quintin: Just being able to help those families during one of the worst times in their lives, dealing with their kids’ illnesses, is incredibly meaningful. It’s such a beautiful place, and from what all the people I’ve spoken to have said, it truly is a blessing in their lives. Having a beautiful establishment like that, filled with so much love and care, really does take a load off people’s shoulders during such a difficult time in their lives.

Gillian: Yes, definitely. My last question for you is what advice you would give to a new volunteer, or someone that is considering getting involved with the Ronald McDonald House?

Quintin: I would tell them to do it. It’s worth every minute and every dime they spend.

Gillian: Thank you. I really loved hearing all your answers and thanks for volunteering at the House. We do really appreciate all our volunteers!
