14 Apr Ronald McDonald House Volunteer Spotlight: Mike Intravia
Mike Intravia is the owner of Shadows Custom Apparel & Designs in Boise. They became involved with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho (RMHC of Idaho) approximately three years ago. When Shadow’s 25th anniversary was coming up, they were trying to decide how they wanted to celebrate their big accomplishment. Mike and his company decided the best way to celebrate was to give back to the community. Shadow’s planned to donate $2,500 to a specific charity each quarter. RMHC of Idaho was the first charity to receive the funds, and after cooking a meal at the House, they decided to continue supporting RMHC of Idaho. Mike expressed his gratitude for RMHC of Idaho, explaining that he has two healthy children and can’t imagine what these families are going through. “I just want to help make these families lives a little bit easier!”
Mike, along with the Shadow’s team, participates in the annual J.R. Simplot Memorial Golf Tournament, the annual Red Shoe Shindig gala, makes apparel for the staff, donates extra apparel to families staying at the House and Family Room, has helped decorate for the holidays, and cooks about three to four meals a year. Additionally, Mike serves on the fundraising committee.
Mike feels that his time volunteering at the House is rewarding and impactful. He shares that really seeing that you can help make a difference in these families’ lives is inspiring. Through volunteering at RMHC of Idaho, Mike has learned that there is a bigger purpose in life and to always think about how you can make someone’s day or life better. Ronald McDonald House stands out to Mike and the rest of the Shadow’s team because they get to support families in difficult situations.
Mike’s advice to someone considering volunteering is that it doesn’t matter how little or big of a difference you make, every little bit counts. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho is so grateful to have volunteers like Mike and the entire Shadow’s team.
