Now a junior at Eagle High School, Sarina Binetti has been volunteering with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho since seventh grade. What began as a way to give back, through the National Charity League, has grown into a very meaningful part of her life. “I had heard about the Ronald McDonald House a little bit… but I didn’t really know what it was about,” she said. “And so, when I eventually came to volunteer, my first thought was just like, this is amazing.”
Sarina is a familiar face in the kitchen, spending much of her time helping with meals and baking shifts. From tacos at her very first dinner service to creative treats like lemon blueberry cinnamon rolls, she brings both energy and care to every visit. “I’m so baking obsessed, too, that it was like the perfect volunteer opportunity for me,” she shared.
However, for Sarina, it is not just about the food. It is about the people. “I just love, love, love the people so much,” she said. “I love being there and feeling that you’re really giving back to your community.”
Over the years, small moments have left a lasting impact. One memory in particular stands out. While baking with her mom, Sarina met a mother staying at the House while her young daughter received care nearby. “It was very sobering,” she said. “You just don’t really see that perspective a lot. And it was really eye opening for me.” In that moment, Sarina and her mom did what volunteers do best. They showed up with kindness; offering listening ears and words of support.
Volunteering is a family experience for Sarina. She often serves alongside her mom and, more recently, her sister. “It’s just fun to do that together,” she said. “To bake and spend that time together as a family.”
Even outside the House, Sarina continues to give back. Last year, she volunteered at various locations, completing over 100 hours of service! Another place she frequents often is St. Luke’s through their junior program, where she has worked with pediatric patients and helped deliver toys to children who cannot leave their rooms. Those experiences, paired with her time at RMHC, have helped shape her future goals. “I just love the idea of helping people, especially kids,” she said. “That’s why I want to go into pediatrics.”
Whether she is baking brownies at the last minute or connecting with families in the kitchen, Sarina shows what it means to serve with heart. During Volunteer Appreciation Month, we are grateful for her time, her compassion, and the joy she brings to the House. “I’m just so grateful to be able to work with such an amazing organization,” she said. And we are grateful for her!
