23 Jul RMHC of Idaho Growth Update: July
Each month, we will be updating you on all our expansion news, including updates on the new Ronald McDonald House in Boise and the Ronald McDonald Family Room in Idaho Falls.
Ronald McDonald House® Expansion Update
The construction site has been very busy, we’re even close to having a full roof! You can see how quickly things have been moving by watching our Facebook livestream tour of the site. Since the groundbreaking about 6 months ago, over 500 cubic yards of concrete have been poured, more than 200,00 board feet of lumber and 700,000 nails have been installed, and more than 12 miles worth of wire has been ordered for the building. That’s a lot of materials—all for the purpose of making room for every family.
All this progress would not be possible without the generous support of our capital campaign donors. To date, we’ve raised about $10.8 million dollars, with new donors such as Chris and Barbara Petersen, Twin Falls Optimist Club and Idaho Power coming in to support the project. We’re continuing to fundraise as we work towards our $15.3 million goal. Learn more at rmhcidaho.org/roomforeveryfamily.
Ronald McDonald Family Room® Update
We’re less than two months away from opening our doors to families with sick children at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Construction has been moving quickly, with painting, tiling, and wall coverings all reaching final stages. Watch a video tour of the space on our Facebook page and be sure to stay tuned for a ribbon cutting date!
On July 17, we celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Happy Wheels hospitality cart in the Magic Valley! Watch our Facebook livestream of the event here. After the ribbon cutting, the cart immediately started its journey through the pediatric areas of the hospital. Fully run by hospital volunteers, the cart’s regular days will be Wednesdays and Saturdays.
It is thanks to the support of the community that this cart became a reality, such as the financial support of Northwest Farm Credit Services. St. Luke’s engineers were also instrumental in making this project happen by designing and building the cart.
RMHC of Idaho is no stranger to serving Magic Valley families; each year, over half of the families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House come from this area. With the expansion of the Happy Wheels program, RMHC of Idaho will have the chance to increase its impact in the Magic Valley.
Check back next month for new updates on our expansion efforts!
