As we were preparing to move across the country, having ended our lease and packed up everything, our daughter, Maven, was born 11 weeks early, completely changing the course of our plans. Further complications were discovered shortly after Maven was born and she required several surgeries during her NICU stay. We found ourselves navigating the unexpected reality of a premature birth and a lengthy NICU stay. During this time of uncertainty, we were kindly referred to the Ronald McDonald Family Room. Knowing we had a safe and supportive place to stay, so close to our daughter was an incredible blessing. Being right down the hall gave us peace of mind—we could rest knowing we were never far from her and could be there within seconds if needed.
We stayed in the Ronald McDonald Family Room for 63 days. As Maven stabilized, we found another flexible housing solution, but we continued to visit the Ronald McDonald Family Room every day to stay close to her. Having access to a kitchen where we could store groceries and cook meals, or the relief of knowing a warm meal would be provided during the day, made a world of difference during such a stressful time. The support we received eased our burden and allowed us to focus fully on Maven’s recovery. We grew close to the staff and volunteers who brightened our days with their kindness and encouragement.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room provided a sense of normalcy—we could share meals, play games, and spend time together with visiting family and friends in a welcoming space. In the midst of such a unique and challenging situation, RMHC of Idaho became a place of comfort, community, and hope. For that, we will always be deeply grateful.
