11 Nov Gutierrez Morales Family Story
When our daughter, Mariana, got diagnosed with cancer, specifically neuroblastoma, we were very scared. We arrived at the hospital in Boise from our home in Hailey in fear and with nothing on us! With the timing of the news, the pressure to get to the hospital, and everything else going on, there was no time to pack. The hospital informed us about what the Ronald McDonald House had to offer, and we soon had a place to bathe, new clothes to wear, and a private room just for us.
Mariana was diagnosed on September 14, and we stayed at the Ronald McDonald House until the end of October. We then went back and forth for about a year. Usually, I switch back and forth between my house and the RMHC of Idaho House. We are very happy to be able to stay here, as it truly feels like a home to us. While Mariana is in the hospital someone is always with her. Mariana’s grandmother and I visited her during the week and her father and older sister would come on the weekends because of work. We wanted to make sure we were there for our daughter. Previously, we stayed in a RMHC House in California for four months as Mariana was getting a transplant.
I have seen signs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, but it really isn’t something people really think of until they are in a tough situation. Situations like this could happen to anyone, it is the unknown.
The Ronald McDonald House provided us with services that we would not be able to afford on our own and gave us the attention and support we needed. We have had a lot of good support and help for my family. I am left with a huge impression of the people who donate and of the people who help around the House so that these Houses can provide help to those who need it!
