Cupps Family Chapter

Cupps Family

Our 20-month-old grandson, Austin, was diagnosed with prune-belly syndrome and end-stage renal disease early in the pregnancy, and the prognosis was grim. Yet, defying expectations, Austin entered this world at 32 weeks. Now, almost two years later, his sweetness, intelligence, and strength inspire us daily.

After being transferred to Seattle for life-saving dialysis at just three days old, Austin spent 3.5 months fighting for his life, followed by 1.5 months in Boise before finally coming home. Though his immune system remains fragile, Austin’s resilience shines through in every battle. When hospitalization became a frequent occurrence, fighting RSV, Influenza A, Rhinovirus, and a couple other infections, a compassionate social worker introduced us to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho, which became a haven that transformed our journey.

Being mere steps away from the hospital allowed us to focus on Austin’s care; free from worries about meals and lodging. The RMHC of Idaho House staff welcomed us with warmth, ensuring our stay was comfortable and supportive. Their provisions of nourishing meals and snacks enabled us to prioritize Austin’s well-being. As we navigated the challenges of his condition, the staff’s kindness and concern for Austin’s progress gave us peace of mind.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho will be forever in our hearts!
