Women’s National History Month—Elizabeth Criner

Women's National History Month - Elizabeth Criner

March is a time to recognize and celebrate the women who lead, inspire, and strengthen our communities. During Women’s History Month, we honor those who use their voices, experiences, and compassion to make a difference. Elizabeth Criner is one of those leaders, bringing both heart and purpose to her work with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho (RMHC of Idaho).

Elizabeth’s role as President of the Board of Directors for RMHC of Idaho is rooted in personal experience. After being encouraged to join the board by a client and a friend, it was her family’s time spent staying near the hospital during her father’s final days that truly shaped her commitment. Having a place to rest while staying close meant everything.

“What we do at RMHC of Idaho is essential to support families with ill or injured children and that is what inspires me.” Elizabeth shares.

Her leadership is guided by the women who have influenced her along the way. Her mother taught her to believe in herself and to look for the good in people. An early mentor showed her how to lead with empowerment and give back to the community. “Both of these women taught me to look for the right opportunity to engage and look for ways to support the community.” Elizabeth says, “When you are passionate about something and give of your time and resources, you can do good things and that can be so rewarding.”

Elizabeth says the mission comes to life every time she meets a family. A recent chance meeting with a father served by RMHC of Idaho was a powerful reminder of the impact of keeping families close during difficult times. “It really drove home for me the value and importance of our mission,” she says. “I am so honored to be a part of this work to keep families close during what is undoubtedly one of the most challenging of times.”

For women interested in nonprofit leadership, her advice is simple. Find a cause that truly matters to you and aligns with your values. Elizabeth says, “Like most things in life, the good work you put into that organization in time, resources and energy will also give back to you in the end.”
