Ronald McDonald Family Room

inside the walls of Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center

The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center is now open and serving families with sick children. You can help support this program by making a donation, volunteering, purchasing wish list items, and spreading the word about the impact this has on the community.

Family Room Wish List

Providing wish list items for the Family Room is a great way to support families with sick children at EIRMC. Please check our Family Room Wish List and pick up one or two items the next time you’re at the store! Items can be dropped off during the Family Room’s regular hours (9 am – 9 pm, 7 days a week).
We also have an online wish list where items can be ordered and shipped to the Family Room at: 3200 Channing Way, Ste 106 Idaho Falls, ID 83404.
For more information, reach out to René Miller at rene@rmhcidaho.org or 208-227-2898.

Volunteer Opportunities

Now that the Family Room open and serving families, we need volunteers to help keep the space running and ensure families are receiving the comfort and support they need. Below is information on how to volunteer at the Family Room:

CORE volunteers:

Our CORE volunteers are individuals who make a long-term commitment to volunteer two to four times a month at a regular shift. CORE volunteers will often work the front desk or come in regularly to bake and/or prepare meals. If you’re interested in becoming a CORE volunteer for the Family Room, please reach out to our Family Room Coordinator, René Miller, at rene@rmhcidaho.org or by calling 208-227-2898.

Food From The Heart:

A home-cooked meal or baked good goes a long way in helping to make the Ronald McDonald Family Room a comfortable place to stay.

For meal preparation or baking groups, please note that all shifts close after one person has signed up for the shift. This ensures that other people outside your group will not sign up for your shift. If you have others joining you, please email our Family Room Coordinator, René. She will send you a password to share with your group so they can also sign up for the shift. (Please note: we are only able to accommodate up to 2 people for a baking shift and up to 4 people for a meal preparation shift)

It’s easy to sign up for a volunteer shift through our VolunteerLocal online calendar. Simply follow the steps below:

  • Submit an online registration form for each person interested in volunteering
  • When registering, you can use the same email address for all family members, allowing your accounts to be linked
  • After filling out the registration form, you will receive a confirmation email
  • Once registered, you can sign up for volunteer shifts through the baking or meal preparation calendar below
  • Please email our Family Room Coordinator, René Miller, with any questions.

Family Room – Food from the Heart Guidelines

Comfort and Care for Eastern Idaho Families

When children are seriously ill or injured, they need family the most. The Ronald McDonald Family Room provides a comfortable and supportive environment within the hospital where families can stay close to their child without having to spend all their time in a critical care environment. The Family Room is fully supported by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho staff and volunteers.

A Comfortable and Supporting Environment

Families with children at EIRMC often live in outlying communities and are unable to make a quick trip back home. Families can talk in private, do laundry, and even sleep comfortably overnight in a private bedroom. Having access to these services means parents are better rested and able to participate in their child’s care.

Supporting Family-Centered Care

Caring for the whole family promotes better health care for pediatric patients. The presence of the Family Room and its volunteers has been shown to improve the well-being of the family, as well as reduce stress and the feeling of isolation.

Reducing Financial Burden on Families

Having a child in the hospital places a huge financial burden on parents and guardians. The Family Room provides a space to spend time, stay the night, and eat meals or snacks at no cost to the family.
